International Student Programme

Our International Community

Te Kura Tātahi o Waihī | Waihī Beach School is a safe and nurturing community that embraces sharing and growing with those from all across the world. We have a rich and diverse International Education Programme that enriches our community, and our strength is in collaboration and sharing what we provide in diverse ways. We offer a small number of places to International Students each year; we actively work to nurture our existing global relationships, and we continue to seek new global partnerships that align with our vision and values. This continues to be an area of important development in our kura, and we hope to hear from you.

International Students

We offer a small number of places to International Students who wish to be part of our community and learn with us. Our International Education Programme focuses on manaakitanga (hospitality), ensuring all our students enjoy an authentic NZ schooling experience. We are signatories to the ‘Code of Practice of International Students’ and uphold its intent. Nestled in the heart of Waihī Beach, we have a small student population that ensures we nurture those who join our International Education Programme. Students are enriched through our focus on Māori culture and education in the environment, and we have carefully crafted a programme that is designed to provide a memorable and positive impression of Aotearoa, New Zealand.

Our Current International Education offerings
Currently, we offer a Raumati | Summer term and a short-term stay option. We offer our Raumati | Summer term programme during Term 1 and Term 4, 2025 (subject to places being available). In this programme, students are provided the opportunity to practise English and learn te reo Māori while experiencing normal school life and a homestay experience. We include class trips, learning to surf, and a visit to our local Marae (cultural meeting house). We provide important environmental education and encourage active participation in sports and culture. We will take care of transportation to and from the airport and ensure the experience is positive and enjoyable. Enquire here for a place in our Raumati | Summer Programme. Email: admin@waihibeach.school.nz

Our short-term programmes run for two weeks and are focused on immersion at Te Kura Tātahi o Waihī | Waihī Beach School. Our International Students have enjoyed the opportunity to experience a taste of our school culture, and as a testament to shorter stays, our International Students have come back to us for longer stays. We aim to ensure learners have an enriching time while at our kura, enhancing their confidence and building on their existing capabilities. Depending on when a student arrives, they will immerse themselves in our kura where they will experience a diverse range of learning experiences in the arts, environment, culture and sports.

Collaborations

We have several important global connections that we continue to nurture and explore for learning.

Global Academic Community

Hosting Taiwanese Academics from the National Academy for Educational Research.

On the 23rd of October 2024, Te Kura Tātahi o Waihī | Waihī Beach School hosted a delegation of Taiwanese academics from the National Academy for Educational Research. The purpose of their visit was to develop an understanding of New Zealand schools with a particular focus on Aesthetic Education, a project directed by the Ministry of Education in Taiwan.

Te Kura Tātahi o Waihī | Waihī Beach School leads a tradition of excellence in sustainability as well as local curriculum, and students and teachers alike embrace the opportunity to develop global connections. The students were involved throughout the visit by providing a moving pōwhiri and hosting a tour of the school. Educators had enriched conversations that explored the similarities and differences between education systems, and the intent is to continue developing productive relationships that exchange knowledge of contemporary approaches to teaching and learning.

On the 8th of September 2024, Te Kura Tātahi o Waihī | Waihi Beach School was invited to provide an introduction to Te Ao Māori through a range of activities and workshops. Lai Hang-Ting, Executive in the Ministry of Education in Taiwan (Leader of the indigenous peoples and special education team), was part of the event, and our kura look forward to continuing our connections in the future.
